We will present this room as a vegas wedding chapel and tell the story of marnie and me and work, which got us all here. Let me start with the magical alchemy of graduate school. Thinkers leadheaded turned into golden tongued scholars, writers, and teachers. Picture a process that works Something Like this. An Admissions Committee imagines a group of students as a cohort. The cohort becomes classmates. The classmates become colleagues. And once in a while, they become lifelong friends. So, colleagues, cohort, classmate, colleague, and that golden thing, a friend. I am cheating a little bit yaleuse marnie came to to study with Harold Lamarr a year after me, and she was in the History Department, and i was in that ragtag group in american studies. And on friday afternoons. The slow drone of graduate students, our own included we survived our basement years, scattered, and became colleagues, solving problems about students for each other. So, cohort, classmate, collie, but for me, we became friends, most important. What we did in our generation will never be duplicated. Youre battling a very difficult system, and all the values of that system are the opposite of what goes into making original good movies. The problem of working in the hollywood system is you can lose your way. My movies tend to upset people a lot, so you can imagine what things theyre trying to take out of my movies. I did grow up in an operating room. I saw a lot of blood. I had been battling with the ratings board, and i kept on getting xs, and i said, absolutely im not changing it anymore. And what i did t

Place to meet, and eventually lee, babcock and dunn ride into the village to the mclean house. The next time the confederate soldiers see general lee, they learn theyve been surrendered. They mistakenly assume that the federal officer talking to lee under the apple tree was general grant. So they went over and started to cut the tree down for souvenirs. Before long, federal troops came over and asked the confederate soldiers why they were cutting down the tree, and he said this is the tree where general lee surrendered to general grant. The confederate soldiers said, i want part of that tree, too. They went to work getting souvenirs off that tree. That night all the roots had been dug up and there was nothing but a hole in the ground where the apple tree stood. Visitors will come through and bring pieces of the apple tree that their ancestors brought home to them, some of which have been donated to the park and on display here. It was removed when he wrote his memoirs. I think one of t
