I also just received a huge honor of being selected National High School Principal of the year. Worcester is the second largest city in new england and worcester tech this the largest high school in a city. With 1400 students in 24 different tactical programs within for small learning communities. 63 of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, 19 our special ed and ethnic background reflects the citys demographics. We were the lowest performing high school in our city and one of the poorest performing vocational schools in our state. Presently we have a 92 first time passing rate in englishlanguage arts, 84 in math, 96 insights, and last year 96. 4 of our students graduate in four years. The achievement gap has decreased significantly and in some groups it is nonexistent. I had a chance to speak to a student here about this, who knew people that have taken this course before, and has been following this, heres what she told me. Now in the first week, as to explicitly explain their collaboration policies, so that a teacher will spend ten minutes explaining what is allowed and what is not allowed which didnt used to be the case before. Now before every exam every assignment the teachers try to be more explicit what is allowed and what is not. Harvard saying look, it took five months to review this to make sure its been fair to all of the students, but theres been a lot of criticism of how this was handled by the university.
