Sheriff s Office searching for jail inmate who didn t return from medical furlough

The Athens County Sheriff s Office is currently seeking information regarding the whereabouts of Shayne Barnhart, 37, of Athens, who reportedly failed to report to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail (SEORJ) following medical furlough. A nationwide warrant for arrest was filed in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas on Feb. 3 for Barnhart for failure to report to SEORJ. He was previously indicted for failure to comply with order or signal from a police officer, a third-degree felony; and endangering children, a fourth-degree felony. The Athens County Prosecutor’s Office submitted a request for medical furlough for Barnhart in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas, effective Dec. 16 last year, per court documents. The medical furlough request was granted by Judge George P. McCarthy. Because of privacy laws, Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn couldn t say why Barnhart required medical attention.

Attorney General dismisses Ohio University administrator from PPE price gouging suit

Athens NEWS Associate Editor Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost dismissed an Ohio University administrator from a lawsuit that alleged she and her husband hoarded hundreds of bottles of hand sanitizer during the coronavirus pandemic and sold them online for 11 times the retail price. Ellen Fultz, OU’s executive director of development, major giving, was dismissed from the suit in October, months after she filed a summary judgement request that featured testimony from her husband, Marcus Fultz, saying she had no involvement in Danielle-on-2nd, his business that allegedly sold hand sanitizer online. Marcus’ sole employee, Eloise “Elly” Walburn, also provided testimony saying Ellen didn’t take part in any of the business’ operations.
