says there are few prospects for foster kids who age out of the system. in the state of georgia, that s nearly 700 children each year. one in four youth who age out of foster care become homeless within two years. and when they age out, they re 18. and so as they make mistakes, they don t have a parent to help rescue them. reporter: originally from ghana, he moved to atlanta to live with his father when he was 8 years old. he says his dad was emotionally and physically abusive. i ve tried to commit suicide when i was living with him. i would like tie a plastic bag around my neck so i can suffocate myself. reporter: he entered the georgia foster care system at age 16 when his father relinquished parental rights. he was eventually placed with his foster parents. they were friends with his biological father. i thought he needed some stability in his life. he s 18 years old. do you think he s ready to be on his own?
