COVID-19 by the numbers New Mexico health officials yesterday reported 691 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 164,954. Of those, the health department has designated 88,982 as recovered. Bernalillo County had 257 new cases, followed by Doña Ana County with 85 and Sandoval County with 56. Santa Fe County had 28 new cases. The state also announced 20 additional deaths, including one from Santa Fe County: a man in his 70s who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. After Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin was arrested for his involvement in the U.S. Capitol riots, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas swiftly called on him to resign.
Attorney General Balderas said he has substantial evidence in his criminal and civil investigations against Griffin, in addition to the federal prosecution. I will seek a more timely removal. In other words, I don t want to wait too long,” Balderas said. And now I’d like to disclose that we are concerned for the safety of employees and the other commissioners. Even local residents have been disturbed by the level of activity in Otero County,” he added.
