Eumir Marcial heading to Thailand to gear up for Tokyo Olympics
Olympic-bound Eumir Marcial is set to join the training bubble of Filipino boxers in Thailand, following the conclusion of the ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships in late May.
According to Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) secretary-general Ed Picson, the professional boxer relayed the message recently while training in Zamboanga under the auspices of national team coach Gerson Nietes. Actually, I ve been trying to get him to Thailand even when he was in the U.S. A [Thai] visa was already sent there to the L.A. consulate, but he decided not to pick it up so we re applying him another visa, explained Picson in Tuesday s online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.

With less than 10 weeks before the Tokyo Olympics, top officials from amateur boxing have urged Eumir Marcial to focus on his training in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics.
Not on giving statements based on unfounded claims.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) commissioner Ramon Fernandez denied Marcial’s declaration that the government has not been supporting him since he decided to leave for the US last October.
“As far as the PSC is concerned, tuluy-tuluy ang allowance niya maski nag-professional na siya (he continues to receive his allowance even when he turned professional,” Fernandez said Tuesday, May 11,2021 during the online PSA Forum.

Tokyo Olympics-bound boxer Eumir Marcial said that more than his form, he is more bent on getting his fighting weight in time for this year’s ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships on May 21 to June 1 in Dubai.
Since he returned from the US last April 20, Marcial has been training in his hometown in Zamboanga City with Gerson Nietes, a member of the national team coaching staff, at the Zamboanga Valientes Boxing Gym.
The 25-year-old Marcial will compete in the 75kilogram middleweight category in the ASBC, and his focus right now in training is for him to lose weight in time for the tournament.
