republican base right now, and that s what orban is. orban triggers the media and triggers people works you know, think race mixing is okay and, you know, he triggers all the other people that they hate, and that is why they like viktor orban. they don t actually know what the policies are in hungary or, you know, appreciate the detailed policies in hungary and so i think that that is where potentially some republicans i think are gettable, right, because that base makes up a big portion of the republican party. they control the party no doubt, but what we saw in kansas is that there are republican voters that don t want to go all the way down the rabbit hole on all these extremes. you know, even pro-life voters, i m pro-life but the hungarian rules sound reasonable to me. right. i m pro-life but i think there should be exceptions. i don t want there to be bounties at women s heads at four weeks. i don t want like in missouri a doctor to have to call a government politburo before t
biden s political savvy and those who advise him? what made him think that a fire and brimstone speech delivered in atlanta would reach its intended audience of two, a senator in west virginia and another in arizona. if sinema and manchin have season us anything they re not susceptible to that type of speech. the only way to get their votes if gettable are through private persuasion, not bombast. and the president from the left, his remarks were seen as too little and too late. stacey abrams didn t even attend the speech in her home state, citing an unspecified scheduling conflict. really? the only thing tangible to come from the speech, a four pinocchio rating from the washington post for the president s false claim that he d been arrested in the context of the discussion of the civil rights movement. compounding the tuesday trip on thursday, for the third time in the last year, biden headed to
white house matter? does the fact that the president was the head of the judiciary committee and he obviously knows what it is to be in the middle of an extremely contentious confirmation fight, that his chief of staff also knows how this works or is it always something new or different every time? it s super helpful. the president cares very deeply about these issues. he s former chair of the judiciary committee. we had both picks. i was in the room for the final pick and he lobbied president obama very hard, he cared very deeply about these things, he made calls to senators to sound out names. he s going to be a very active president on this because he understands the truth, which is it s his legacy. 30 years from now they will say biden s pick ruled on this. he will care very deeply about it and be involved and he will know which of these senators is going to be gettable for some of these votes on some of these picks. jim, erin, thanks to both of
see made and as long as he s at the table, his vote is gettable. they need to find a way to get manchin to yes. it goes back to the house of representatives where you convince the members already stomached a pared down bill to a more pared down bill. it will be longer than democrats hoped for. bottom line, there are a lot of obstacles within the democratic part proposals done r side to deal with. yes, right. they re trying to pass the build back better act with democratic votes, that s how the process was set up, and as sam mentioned, that is what some democrats are saying, at least joe manchin is at the table still, so he has not yet walked away. there are problems. they can t get him to commit.
the description exists, but they don t know these are the specific materials that are out there that would be gettable for them. what s a big deal about this court filing is justice department lawyers speaking on behalf of the national archives are saying, hey, here s why the select committee needs these documents. it s because it s this document, that document, another document all really interesting stuff, all really relevant to what the committee is working on. doj is just saying, look, here s what we ve got. select committee, here s what you might be getting. that s how doj is making the argument that the federal judiciary needs to disregard the case for executive privilege trump is making and green light sending these documents over to congress. congress hasn t seen these documents and that s why this lawsuit is important. i m always smarter for listening to you. thank you. betsy woodruff swan is a national correspondent at politico and an msnbc contributor. joining us is debby
