FRANKFORT — A Republican senator proposed striking much of anti-trans House Bill 470 after Senate Republicans caucused behind closed doors for three hours Tuesday.

This marks the first time a bill to legalize medical marijuana has cleared a Senate committee, but SB 47 must now pass out of the chamber by Thursday.

The Kentucky Senate passed a bill that would limit drag shows in public. Supporters say Senate Bill 115 is about protecting children, but opponents call it an attack on the LGBTQ+ community.

Protestors say the legislation is hateful and will only hurt the state's economy. However, supporters say "protecting children" is more important.

Senate Bill 115 requires any 'adult-oriented' business, which includes businesses that host drag performances, to be more than 1,000 feet away from any residence, park, school, church or more.

Lawmakers returned to Frankfort last week to reconvene following a constitutionally required break in the 2023 30-day legislative session.

Sen. Robby Mills said the bill makes permanent the ban following recent actions by the executive branch and the Legislative Research Commission to keep TikTok off state devices..
