Three rival Georgia carpet companies took a break from their floor-covering competition to focus on a foe that united them: COVID-19.
Mohawk Industries, Shaw Industries and Engineered Floors collaborated on a COVID vaccination event for the workers at their Dalton-area plants recently. Almost 5,000 shots were administered over two weeks in the northwest Georgia city that’s called the “carpet capital of the world.”
Caption Whitfield County, where Dalton is located, shows one of the highest COVID case rates in the state, as does Hall County, where many Latinos work in the poultry plants.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Marion Ross Fedrick, President of Albany State University has been appointed to Georgiaâs COVID-19 Health Equity Council, the school announced Thursday.
The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) said they created this council to help DPH increase the effectiveness of its public health programs statewide, ensure equity in COVID-19 vaccination distribution and administration, and improve outreach and communication within Georgia communities most affected by COVID-19.
