Gold Hill Mesa host site for Children’s Literacy Center free one-on-one tutoring sessions
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- More kids will have the opportunity to catch up on their reading this summer for free. The Children’s Literacy Center, a non-profit organization serving across Colorado tutors students reading below grade level.
The Children’s Literacy Center, has a host site at Gold Hill Mesa Community Center and it has been a key component throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in helping children succeed. Now it is a program the community can count on throughout the summer and upcoming school year.
“Children have been overwhelmed, parents have been overwhelmed, teachers have been overwhelmed, school districts have been overwhelmed…it's been a really tough year," expressed Gina Solazzi, the Executive Director of The Children’s Literacy Center.

Fresh noodles are a gift unto the world. Thereâs nothing wrong with dried pasta â my husband thinks itâs one of civilizationâs best culinary conveniences, and itâs hard to disagree. But the fresh stuffâs something special. It has a certain texture when itâs bitten into thatâs yielding but substantial in a way thatâs just lovely. It is possible to get something of the same texture in higher-end dried pasta, the kind with a rough, no-gloss exterior.
But Pasta di Solazzi didnât return from 20 years of hiatus to screw around. Gina Solazzi and Gregg Braha first opened their Italian joint in 1982, maintaining it over 19 years and across multiple relocations. Now, theyâre back, operating as a ghost kitchen from The Chef's Kitchen on Eighth Street, offering pickup and limited deliveries of a small menu thatâs reminiscent of a high-end Italian deli. (Worth noting, their products are also on a few retail shelves in town.) Solazzi, Braha and their eldest daughter, Alex, sell a small menu of fresh pastas and sauces, plus mini cannoli and their once-legendary cheese torte.

Academy Blvd. He honed his baking skills as an apprentice at Boulangerie Duford and eventually became a pastry chef apprentice at Patisserie Dagand, both near his home in Valence, France. In 1999, he moved to Colorado Springs and worked as a baker at Marigold’s Café and Bakery for 15 years off and on. He also did stints at La Baguette in Old Colorado City and Wimberger’s Old World Bakery and Deli.
When Blandine Mazéran, owner of The French Kitchen, started planning to open her business, she hired Mullebrouck. He became instrumental in the design and buildout of the bakery and pastry kitchen. They opened the center in June 2017.

Gregg Braha and Gina Solazzi are bringing back a smaller version of their much-loved Pasta di Solazzi, which they opened in 1982 and closed in 2001.
At the first location in the Woodmen Shopping Center at Academy Boulevard and Woodmen Road, Solazzi became the queen of homemade pasta and fabulous sauces. The deli brimmed with imported cheese and meats from Italy. With their customer base growing, the husband-and-wife team leaped for a larger space on Centennial Boulevard, near Marigold’s Café and Bakery. They expanded their menu, increased deli options and added seated dining. They even hired a chef from Italy. It was a sad day when they made the decision to close Pasta di Solazi to pursue other careers.
