GLEN CARBON – While ice might have been strong enough to permit people to walk on local ice-covered lakes and ponds between Feb. 5 and Feb. 20, doing so after last Saturday is potentially dangerous, as an ice rescue in the Lakewood Subdivision proved.
Someone in the subdivision called the Glen Carbon Fire Protection District at 4:38 p.m. Tuesday to report a large dog was on the ice behind a residence. En route to the scene, fire units received an update that two men had ventured onto the ice to retrieve the dog.
