Longtime lobbyist Chris Gallus secured a unanimous vote from the Senate State Administration Committee on Friday, just 10 minutes after his confirmation hearing wrapped up.
The governor’s policy director and the bill sponsor said Thursday they would be open to including a phase-out at a slightly higher income level in a bill that would provide a $1,200 tax credit for each Montana child ages 5 and under.
Kassmier advocated for the bill to offer a $1,200 annual tax credit to families with children under the age of six and an adjusted gross income of $50,000 or less.
The child tax credit is one of the major proposals from Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte’s administration which has received vocal support from members of both parties.
