To everything there is a season, and summer in Madison in recent (non-pandemic) years has included a season for your face to hurt from laughing. Madison Comedy Week returns in 2021 bigger and better than ever, with almost 30 events over eight evenings at The Bur Oak, The Rigby and several other venues (including headliners Kevin Bozeman and Mary Mack at the Pursuit of Happiness Session at McPike Park on Aug. 6-7). Highlights during the first half of the week (at The Bur Oak) include the now-traditional âMadison Comedy Awardsâ ceremony (at 9 p.m. Sunday), and both Fresh Faces (7 p.m.) and Seasoned Vets (9 p.m.) showcases on Tuesday.
Free, 1-4 p.m., July 3, 3527 Atwood Ave.
Madison-born songwriter, hip-hop guitarist and music producer Adem Tesfaye will play at the jazz club Cafe CODA this Friday. Tesfaye is a skilled storyteller, with experience producing music rooted in hip-hop, funk, reggae and blues. He has previously released two solo albums, D-iz-III “the Sickness” and “Athedage,” though his most recent work includes the Black Poet’s Society Reunion and a blues-funk-hip-hop band Binx.
Free, 5:30-8 p.m., July 2, 1224 Williamson St.
Experience all the fun at this family-friendly July 4 parade, with opportunities to decorate your bikes and strollers and enjoy some patriotic party favors. Led by a firetruck, the parade will begin at 10 a.m. near the main park sign and will go from Country Grove Drive to Fieldcrest Way, Mammoth Trail and finally back to the park.
