Around 500 workers from the Glenugie and Deeside divisions have joined the strike under conditions where it is impossible to make ends meet because of skyrocketing prices, food shortages and meagre wages.
The wage cuts and new work targets are part of the ongoing efforts of the tea plantation companies, assisted by the trade unions, to drive up productivity and boost profits.
Plantation management has unleashed its victimisations, not just to intimidate Alton Estate workers but as part of a national plan to impose even harsher workload in all estates and to drive-up company profits.
