Resilience the watchword for MICE exhibitions, as show directors speak at EW #GED2021 webinar

Resilience the watchword for MICE exhibitions, as show directors speak at EW #GED2021 webinar Exhibition World celebrated Global Exhibition Day, #GED2021, by hosting the ‘Global Exhibition Day: Rallying point for the return of exhibitions’ webinar on 2 June, in partnership with International Confex. The key theme of the webinar discussed by five show directors was what it takes to plan an exhibition during a pandemic. The speakers also covered the exhibition industry’s role in rebuilding economies, how hybrid events can expand global reach, navigating changing government policies and the continuing challenges of international travel. Joining our host, EW managing editor Paul Colston, were the directors behind regional MICE industry tradeshows, including: Silke Calder, event director, AIME (Australasia); Volkan Ataman, president of the Tourism Media Group, organisers of ACE of M.I.C.E. (Turkey); Gorazd Cad, co-founder of Conventa (southeast Europe) and Duncan Custerson, director of International Confex (UK).

Leveraging industry expertise

Leveraging industry expertise Looking ahead in 2021, the International Exhibition Logistics Association (IELA) explains some of its work and initiatives during challenging times.   In the late fall of 2020, our view for the future was cautiously optimistic. Then the strength of the second wave of Covid caused a re-evaluation of the prognosis,” says Sandi Trotter, IELA vice-chairperson, and director business development TWI Group Canada. “With lockdowns returning to most parts of the world, the optimism for a gradual restart in late spring 2021 has now been moved to late summer/ early fall.” She believes industry reopening will be reliant on several pillars, including wide vaccine distribution, which would allow venues to reopen by building confidence among attendees, exhibitors and organisers.
