A renowned concussion researcher, Carolina’s 12th chancellor increased funding and steered the University through a pandemic.

About 2,700 Carolina students, more than ever before, had a global educational experience in 2022-23.

Tar Heels in Caroline Sibley’s Advanced Arabic class used virtual reality to explore a virtual world with students in Morocco and Algeria in real-time to hone their language skills.

Emma Sampson's passion for global education began at a young age. The now sophomore enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill as a global studies major after she spent fall 2021 abroad in Granada, Spain through Carolina Global Launch – an intimidating decision for Sampson.

The growing success of COIL exemplifies how the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs advances Globalize, the seventh initiative in the University’s strategic plan, by bolstering the initiative’s second objective, the Global Guarantee, which promises that a global education is available to all Carolina students. 

The Global Guarantee is Carolina’s commitment that a global education — from study abroad to Collaborative Online International Learning courses to virtual global research and internships — is available to all students.

Three students share their summer study abroad experiences in Europe, Central America and Asia.

UNC-Chapel Hill is home to six Title VI-funded area studies centers, five of which are designated National Resource Centers for language and area studies. This is more than any other university in the U.S. Southeast.
