The Philippines Government and local Internet service providers have agreed to establish a voluntary mechanism through which pirate sites can be more effectively blocked. After receiving a verified complaint, the plan is for ISPs to block infringing platforms within two hours, although new legislation may be needed to speed up the initial verification process.
Alongside various initiatives to discourage Internet users from visiting pirate sites, including improved legitimate offerings, governments, rights holders and service providers are pressing ahead with their site blocking plans.
Broadly speaking, site blocking takes place under two regimes – court-ordered injunctions and voluntary arrangements between stakeholders. The former can prove effective but there are considerable costs involved and blocking doesn’t always happen as swiftly as rightsholders would like. Google LLC said today that its no-code software development platform AppSheet Automation is now generally available, helping people with zero coding skills automate many of the mundane business tasks they perform on a daily basis.
Google acquired AppSheet in January 2020, doing so in order to target a slice of the larger “low-code development market” that Gartner Inc. has forecast will be worth as much as $17 billion in 2022.
AppSheet Automation was announced in preview at Google’s virtual Cloud Next OnAir event in September. Amit Zavery, Google’s general manager of platforms, told SiliconANGLE at the time that AppSheet Automation was designed to “make it easy and simple to build applications without writing any code, which is different from low-code.”

Globe Telecom Inc. has provided free and unlimited GoWIFI connection to over 100 hospitals, and key sites nationwide.
Globe announced that on April 8, it started providing free GoWiFi services to select hospitals and other key locations nationwide “to extend connectivity support in the wake of rising coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country.”
Of the 124 hospitals and sites provided with free and unlimited GoWIFI connection, 29 are located in Luzon, 49 in Metro Manila, 27 in Visayas, and 19 in Mindanao.
