Google plans to eliminate Gmail's Basic HTML view in January 2024. According to users on Hacker News, they received an email from Google

"You can display Gmail on your browser in Basic HTML view until January 2024. After this date, Gmail automatically changes to Standard view," Google said.

Basic HTML allowed users to access their Gmail accounts with less clutter even with slow connections or older devices.

The basic HTML version of Gmail was handy for visually impaired users and those who wanted to check emails in an area with poor internet connectivity.

Google updated a Gmail support article to say that the basic HTML view for Gmail will be discontinued in January 2024.

Like it or not, Gmail will automatically load Standard view from January 2024.
