from the washington post, doing great reporter on the potential backlash amongst republicans on the nat side, and dana bash is here with me. what are republicans telling you? what are you hearing about these tariffs against mexico? how real is their concern right now? so there are two big concerns here. one is the actual imposition of tariffs. i have only found one senate republican who says he supports imposing tariffs on mexico over this immigration dilemma. the fast majority of congressional republicans oppose this idea. they re pro free trade and don t think this is a good idea. there s also concern about what republicans might be forced into as a result if these tariffs go into effect because now the legal rationale that the administration is going to be using or has said they will use actually sets up a process that s similar to what we saw with the national emergency over the border wall earlier this year. and congress has some tools at its disposal to override that emergenc
president trump in particular often talk abouts about tariffs like they re a sales tax. that s not how tariffs work. the cost ends up being born by consumers in both countries. in both china and the united states and mexico and united states. one example here in the u.s. is dollar tree, the very popular dollar store, is now going to raise the riprices of its produs to $5, not $1. because they import so much from china. that s an example how that stuff is already trickling down to consumers. and if the tariffs on mexico do go into effect, we could see a similar effect on many, many other products like you mentioned. we saw the markets tank yesterday. this is a president who has a lot of bragging rights when it comes to the economy thus far.

abortion law that bans the procedure after about six weeks and makes no exception for rape or incest. in missouri, the governor signed into one one almost as strict. here is abc s mary bruce. reporter: in mississippi tonight, a law that would make abortions illegal is now on hold. a federal judge ruling that the ban, threatens immediate harm to women s rights, especially considering most women do not seek abortion services until after six weeks. but while the mississippi ban is being blocked for now, in missouri, the governor today signed one of the most restrictive laws in the country. it outlaws abortions after eight weeks, even in cases of rape or incest. i believe in two months you can make a decision. i believe that. that can be done. but in two months time, i also believe that that child has rights. mary joins us now. the mississippi law on hold but that ban in missouri, how soon does that go into effect?
