all right. we want to take a moment to honor this week s cnn hero. she is a nurse in detroit where nearly half of the city s children live in poverty. she has been working to change that since she made a house call more than 20 years ago. working as a nurse, i went to visit this iraqi refugee family and an infant that was dying. and there at the house, they absolutely had nothing. there was no refrigerator, no stove, no crib. the baby was in a laundry basket. i decided this wasn t going to happen on my watch how s your apprenticeship going? nurses are supposed to fix things, we are heal eers. this is just a place that heals the world. to learn more, go to cnn
surf. kids who made the tough decision to leave their unstable homes and navigate a world on their own. this week a cnn hero is bringing teenagers out of the shadows giving them a safe house to live in and a chance for a brighter future. meet nicki sekolic. there is a lot of shame with being a homeless, unaccompanied youth and they hide what s going on with them and they become this visible population. most people don t know these kids exist. the transformation of these kids is monumental and they come in so broken. i m just one person telling them i m going to help them they become softer. it s just great that they can be happy and they re able to be kids again. to find out more about vicky, go to cnn heroes.com. we ll be right back.
