Lockdown in Goa from Thursday as Covid-19 cases continue to surge
The Goa government has announced a complete lockdown in the state from tomorrow, news agency ANI reported. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed that restrictions will come into effect at 7 PM tomorrow and remain in place till May 3 morning.
He said that essential services and industrial activities, however, will allowed during the lockdown period. Sawant said that the public transport will remain shut. Besides, all casinos, hotels, pubs will remain closed.
The coastal state s borders with neighbouring states will remain open for essential service transportation. The lockdown will come into force on Thursday evening and remain effective till Monday morning to break the chain of the coronavirus transmission, Sawant said.

The Chief Minister said essential services and industries will be exempted from the purview of the lockdown but public transport will not be allowed. The Goa government on Wednesday decided to impose a strict lockdown in the State beginning from April 29 till May 3, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.
Speaking to reporters, he said essential services and industries will be exempted from the purview of the lockdown but public transport will not be allowed.
“The lockdown will come into force on Thursday evening and remain effective till Monday morning to break the chain of the coronavirus transmission,” he said.

Panaji (Goa) [India], April 28 (ANI): Goa government on Wednesday announced that strict lockdown will be enforced from 7 pm of April 29 (Thursday) to the morning of May 3 (Monday) in order to break the COVID-19 chain in the state.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant clarified that the essential services and industries will not be shut down during the lockdown. Lockdown would be imposed from Thursday evening 7 pm till Monday morning in the coastal state to break the chain of COVID-19 infection. Goa had been reporting more than 2,000 new infections on a daily basis this week, Sawant said during the address.

Vishwajit Rane on Monday said the state may see 200 to 300 COVID-19-related deaths per day in the next 10 days, and suggested a month-long lockdown to control the pandemic.

PANAJI: Goa s coronavirus caseload went up by 2,321 and reached 79,798 on Monday, while the day also saw 38 deaths and 712 people getting discharged, an official said.
The state s toll stands at 1,055 and the recovery count is 63,483, leaving it with an active caseload of 15,260, he said.
With 6,772 samples being examined, the number of tests in Goa went up to 6,26,583, the official said.
