JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville councilman Reggie Gaffney on Thursday announced his 2022 candidacy for Florida State Senate.
Gaffney, a Jacksonville native and two-term council member, is running for Florida Senate District 6. The seat is currently held by fellow Democrat Audrey Gibson who will reach her term limit next year.
“I’ve been dedicated to serving others for as long as I can remember. Whether it is working to help those with mental wellness issues at the non-profit I founded, serving as District 7 city council member in Jacksonville, raising my two children as a single parent, or caring for my mother diagnosed with dementia, I believe in service to others,” Gaffney said in a news release.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation ordered the emergency closure of the Gold Rush Inn on Harts Road, revoking the establishment’s license to operate, an aide for Jacksonville City Councilman Reggie Gaffney said in a Wednesday email.
The city’s Office of General Counsel notified Gaffney and fellow Councilmember LeAnna Cumber, among others, about the emergency closure during a virtual conference call held earlier Wednesday to discuss the crime problem plaguing several of the city’s hotels.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Gold Rush Inn has been a hotspot of crime and violence in the city s northside. The latest involved a 20-year-old man, who was shot at the hospital Sunday night.
Reacting to the violence at the motel on Harts Road, City Councilman Reggie Gaffney said something must be done.
“Eight murders, and if this kid don’t survive last night, that would be nine. And that’s to many, Gaffney said. “Enough is a enough. I ve done cried to the sheriff, I’ve done cried out to the mayor. What I’m doing now actually I’m writing a letter to the governor today.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – City Councilman Reggie Gaffney is renewing his call for the Gold Rush Inn on Harts Road to be closed after a shooting there on Sunday evening.
Gaffney calls it a hot spot for violence, drugs and crime. There have been more than 800 police calls for service at the day-rate hotel this year and many of eight fatal shootings on Harts Road this year are connected to the hotel.
