The Indian Coast Guard had launched an anti-smuggling operation in the Gulf of Mannar near the Indo-Sri Lankan International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) for the past three days.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Trichy International Airport arrested three passengers on Wednesday and seized 1197.5 grams of 24-carat gold worth Rs 72,73,781, officials said on Wednesday.
A joint operation launched by the Indian Coast Guard with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs resulted in the seizure of 32.689 kgs of gold, valued at approximately Rs 20.2 crore.
