A CLYDEBANK community hero has admitted he burst into tears when he heard he’d won a top award. Jim McLaren was unveiled this week as the Glasgow winner of the ‘Local Legends’ crown in a campaign run by telecoms firm Virgin Media. Jim was nominated by a friend who praised him for everything that he had done in the community as part of Golden Friendships, the local charity that he started two years ago with a group of 20 volunteers. The 57-year-old former taxi driver spent 29 years behind the wheel, but gave up his day job to fully commit to Golden Friendships.
