google: Google to run undersea internet cables to Pacific islands under Australia-US initiative
Google will take part in a combined US-Australian plan to set up undersea cables to connect eight Pacific Ocean countries to the internet. The agreement is expected to be unveiled during Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albaneses visit to the White House. The Australian and American governments will each contribute $15 million and $50 million, respectively. The project also offers aid with cybersecurity and data backup to international cloud networks.
