Lisa Zelinske became the first woman member of the Elks Club No. 1091 in Rochester. Rixa Spencer and Jin Wang are the latest Rochester high school students to record perfect scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Tests. They are among 32 students out of 1.7 million who scored a 1,600 this year on the college entrance exam.
1970 – 50 years ago
Gov. Harold LeVander predicted that Minnesota would complete the 1969-71 biennium with a surplus of from $25 million to $40 million. A joint House-Senate committee report recommended that studded tires be outlawed on Minnesota highways after the current law expires on May 1. Minnesota first allowed stuffed tires in 1965, for winter months only.
