i didn t go in there to teach his the constitution. it was a week and a half before the first debate. i was scared. i go in and have a brief. let s get you a gotcha question on this and that. i could get to the fourth amendment before four other people walking in, he tells me you know? you didn t say that in the book. you said his eyes rolled back in his head. you implied that he could not understand. that s not maybe didn t care enough. that s what it was. didn t care about learning the kons too us? no. i don t think he cared about preparing. for the debate, didn t necessarily care about learning the whole constitution as sam nunberg was saying in that book. daniel, he is now in the white house. who in the white house cares about the constitution for the president of the united states? well, i think, you know, everyone around him is responsible for making it appear as if he has the level of
joining us now are neera tanden president of the center for american progress. daniel dale, washington correspondent for the toronto star. and jennifer rubin. guys, welcome. i find it noticeable that so many of donald trump s sympathizers, donald trump supporters are going on cable outlets and dismissing this book wholeheartedly but they re not getting into many of the details. there is one detail that really just struck out for me. one detail that i noticed and that s from sam nunberg i had on the 2:00 p.m. show earlier today and trying to explain the constitution to a man who was running to be the president of the united states. take a listen to what sam said. michael says i went in there to teach him the constitution. i didn t go in there to teach his the constitution. it was a week and a half before the first debate. i was scared. i go in and have a brief. let me give you a gotcha
and kushner then forwarded that e-mail to hope hicks, one of the closest aides to then candidate trump and now the communications director at the white house. now what this latest revelation does is it turns up pressure on kushner to go back to capitol hill for more interviews and explain himself. we heard this week from the leaders of the senate judiciary committee who sent a public letter to kushner s lawyers saying kushner failed to turn over documents that they know exist. and that includes information about wikileaks. now abby lowell, kushner s attorney, says that the wikileaks question is a gotcha question. he adds in over six hours of voluntary testimony, mr. kushner answered all questions put to him and demonstrated that there had been no collusion between the campaign and russia. and lowell also says that kushner complied with the document request. he said the senate judiciary committee should ask other congressional committees for the transcripts of their kushner interviews a
satisfied at this point. it shows it is going to redouble the efforts of everybody, particularly on the mueller side to try to get parallel track information to cross-check it gets the narrow answer that is can be expected now from mr. kushner. abbey low said this was a classic gotcha question. do you expect it will work for robert mueller? i expect the questions will be different. i expect mueller will ask for precise questions and i think that abbey lowell believes that the only person he has to worry about is mueller. after all, unless congress is going to hold jared kushner in contempt, which the republican majority in each of these committees don t seem to have an appetite for, that s not his
gotcha question and then he said that mr. kushner was asked if he had contacts with wikileaks and he said no. he went on to tell us that he did not know of such contacts, also that he did not know of any contacts by the campaign. and from all that he has seen, his statement when he testified to the committee was accurate then as it is now, what his lawyer said. so curb they werekushner s t is was gotcha question because it was a forwarded e-mail? that s correct. and the distinction here, his lawyer says he never actually communicated with wikileaks, so he complied with what the committee has asked him. he gave them information based on whatever contacts he may have had, you know, and so it s a little bit perhaps maybe tricky here because the committee says that they have asked him for information of any contacts or if he knew of any contacts that someone on the campaign may have been having.
