jurisdiction? the energy and commerce committee. i don t think they re as serious about this from a policy standpoint as from a political standpoint. i hope that s the case. if they abolish health insurance and abolish medicare advantage policies and rip away the health insurance 158 million americans have and replace it with a government-run system do you think it will get less affordable and healthcare more available? i don t think so. bill: here is what he will say. we must take the next step forward and guarantee every man, woman and child in our country basic economic rights, right to healthcare, secure retirement and right to live in a clean environment. it will be a campaign issue. quite clear on that. you don t think they re serious? we ll see. think they re serious when they re out campaigning. if they were serious in congress they would have a hearing in the committee of jurisdiction, the energy and commerce committee. where why aren t they doing more about the costs of

question of the substance of what this might mean for veterans and the department of veterans affairs. we have to be very, very realistic about the potential for anybody to make progress at that institution. it s a perennial source of problems in the federal government. it s a strange irony that these are the people our country owes the greatest debt of gratitude and they are the only group in our country for whom we provide medical care through a pure government run system. it is ironic. that s an inherently problematic business model for health care. it is one reason there are long wait times and so forth. it would be very interesting to see whether this change in personnel is going to lead to the kind of radical changes in policy that have often been discussed, particularly by republicans but never quite carry through because there is a huge ball of lobbying interests
