The new two-factor authentication (2FA) options, rolled out yesterday in Singapore, are aimed at helping the less tech-savvy connect securely to e-government services. They will still have to login to their SingPass account with a username and password, but they can do away with a separate physical token.

Singapore has added face verification as a two-factor authentication (2FA) option to log into SingPass, an account residents use to access e-government services. December 16, 2020 The face verification feature was previously only available to users when setting up the SingPass Mobile app on their smartphones. The Straits Times file SINGAPORE - Residents are now able to verify their SingPass account identity by scanning their faces using computers and camera phones, or by inputting a one-time password sent to another trusted SingPass user. These two features are made available to all SingPass users accessing government digital services from Wednesday (Dec 16). They come as an addition to existing verification methods such as the SingPass Mobile App and the SMS-One Time Password (OTP), announced the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 16).
