HUNTINGTON — Middle and high school-age students from across the state will spend time living and learning at Marshall University during the Governor’s Schools of West Virginia.
HUNTINGTON â The West Virginia Governorâs Honors Academy kicked off this week on Marshall Universityâs Huntington campus.
The academy, reserved for some of the brightest high school students in the state, has taken on a bit of a unique look this year.
The three-week program for rising seniors is taking a hybrid approach that allows the GHA 2020 class to get in on the action after their academy was put on hold in the summer of 2020 because of the pandemic. Instead, GHA 2020 students attended a weeklong session from June 20-25 on Marshallâs campus. GHA 2021 students will take part in a virtual week of sessions from June 28 through July 2 and then visit Marshallâs campus for a week from July 5-10.

CHARLESTON â The West Virginia Department of Education is accepting applications for the West Virginia Governorâs School of Entrepreneurship (GSE) for students in grades 9-11 and the Governorâs STEM Institute (GSI) for students in grades 7 and 8. Both programs will be held virtually this summer.
The Governorâs School of Entrepreneurship is hosted by Marshall University, and students in grades 9, 10 and 11 are eligible to apply. Students participating in GSE will work in virtual teams to develop, pitch and launch a new venture. All teams will pitch their venture to a panel of business leaders who can invest in their ideas.
