Despite overnight rains and more in the forecast the Grand Fork County Commission this week declared a drought emergency for the county.
Emergency Manager Kari Goelz told the board that drought conditions statewide are getting worse not better. Goelz says western parts of the state would need the equivalent of 6-9 inches of rain to pull even while the east is a good 3 to 6 inches short. “We’ve had multiple fires every day and North Dakota is experiencing it’s worst drought since 2000. The governor did declare a statewide drought emergency so this is falling in line with that.”
