A new trooper with the N.C. State Highway Patrol has been assigned to Surry County — one who isn’t having to travel far in undertaking that role.

Members of the Captain Nathan Watkins Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will be hanging handmade wreaths to honor veterans of various wars who are buried at the Mountain Home Cemetery on Saturday afternoon at 1. The local chapter held its first ceremony last year at the cemetery as a service project.
