UPPER MERION Doris Angstadt Goines was born Doris Angstadt May 2, 1924 in Bridgeport. Her parents were Edwin and Sarah Kershner Angstadt of 5th Street. She was the eighth of nine children. Attending school in the borough Doris graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1942. She recalled World War II starting in her senior year. The war led to a series of home front challenges, constant letter writing, rationing, losing friends in battle and dancing in the street when it finally ended.
Upon graduation Doris was offered a college scholarship in education, but she declined her interests lying elsewhere. After school she worked for a summer in a department store. She then acquired a job at the Continental Diamond Fiber Company in their mail room with a salary of $50 a week. It was during this time she began her study of ballet in earnest. Though ballet was not considered a viable career for a young woman she was not deterred. She left Continental Diamond Fiber and took a job at a local
