OPSS Regulatory Excellence Awards 2021 winners announced
The Regulatory Excellence Awards recognise outstanding work and innovation in combating coronavirus, helping businesses trade safely while protecting consumers.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) Regulatory Excellence Awards were held online this year with its largest ever audience of more than 250 people able to attend, including representatives from business organisations and public sector regulatory professionals.
Paul Scully MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Minister for London, provided the opening address.
He said:
“Thank you to all the organisations that have entered this year’s Regulatory Excellence Awards and for the cooperation and partnership working you were involved in with the Office for Product Safety and Standards. This year it is particularly important we celebrate outstanding regulatory practice in supporting businesses and protecting consumers.”

OPSS announces the Regulatory Excellence Awards 2021 finalists
Thirty-five finalists have been chosen from a record number of entries in five categories, including a special one for coronavirus work.

The Awards team received entries from around the country, from a wide variety of organisations striving to make regulation work to protect people and to support business.
As ever, the standard is very high, and on 10 June OPSS will hold an online event to announce the winners to an audience of regulatory professionals from business organisations and the public sector.
The event will celebrate outstanding achievements in supporting businesses and protected consumers, contributing towards fighting coronavirus, rebuilding the economy, and unleashing innovation.

With the rise in low/no alcohol products, the UK’s Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has set out its recommendations for how to name and label low and no alcohol products designed as spirit drink substitutes.
While terms such as 'low alcohol' and 'alcohol-free' are defined in legislation, the name a product can use is less clear. The WSTA has therefore set out what names could be considered acceptable and which are likely to be considered to be misleading to consumers. It hopes the guide will assure producers that they are labelling and marketing their beverages correctly; as well as increasing consumer confidence in the category.
