Gov. Ron DeSantis has proposed $3.5 billion over four years for Everglades restoration and protection of our water resources. With water-quality issues from North Florida's springs to Central Florida's Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie rivers and the South Florida Everglades, Floridians deserve more details.

Gov. Ron DeSantis talked about some interesting ideas to improve water quality. But talking means nothing unless theres action to back up his words.

Every year, the state is confronted with red tides, algae blooms and other water-quality issues, but there doesn’t seem to be a will to confront who and what causes them.

DeSantis often cites his environmental record, including an announcement Jan. 10 of a $3.5 billion commitment to Everglades restoration. But climate activist Pam McVety points out that Florida ranks first or second in the nation for polluted lakes, polluted estuaries and people affected by violations under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The governor fufilled a promise to protect the Everglades by increasing his funding commitment to $3.5 billion over the next four years for Everglades restoration, water quality initiatives and water supply protections for Floridians, businesses and tourists alike.

The CEO of the Everglades Trust writes that Gov. Ron DeSantis' recent $3.5 billion commitment to Everglades restoration is yet another reason "why the Everglades Trust was proud to endorse DeSantis in his re-election for a second term."
