In 2020, 89% of Orange County voters approved a local law granting the right to local waterways to exist and be free of pollution. The Florida Legislature quickly banned such laws. The next step would be for Floridians to approve a state constitutional amendment granting rights to nature, fighting back against a Legislature that does not represent the will of the people.
