Game and Fish proposal would allow darkhouse spearing for walleyes on Devils Lake, Missouri River System

Under the proposal, darkhouse spearing would be allowed for walleyes on Devils Lake and the Missouri River System beginning April 1, 2022, when the stateโ€™s next two-year package of fishing regulations takes effect. Currently, darkhouse spearing in North Dakota is limited to northern pike and nongame fish species.

These are the good, old days for big walleyes on the Missouri River System

The two state record walleyes came within about 30 miles of each other in a three-year span, a remarkable turn of events considering the previous state record had stood since 1959, when Blair Chapman of Minnewaukan, N.D., tallied a 15-pound, 12-ounce walleye from Wood Lake in Benson County.

Dokken: More questions means longer wait for certifying record fish in North Dakota

Fish must be hooked in the mouth to be legally caught and qualify for state record status; anglers must immediately release foul-hooked fish.
