Three local fire service workers were recipients of the 2021 Governor’s Fire Service Awards, announced Thursday in a news release from the Virginia governor’s office.

Lynchburg firefighters were set to resume working out of Station 3 on Fort Avenue on Friday evening.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, a fire broke out at 31 Cabell Street, a historic building circa-1878 that houses The Cottage Stillroom and Beeswax Candle Factory.

Lynchburg is reporting the third-highest daily case count in the Commonwealth, only behind Virginia Beach and Fairfax County, according to Virginia’s Department of Health.

A Lynchburg fire captain who has been criticized in recent months for posting controversial political cartoons on his Facebook page has filed a lawsuit against the city and multiple individual officials, alleging they violated his rights to free speech and religion. Lynchburg requests volunteers for vaccine distribution Lynchburg officials say the city is receiving more COVID vaccines these days.  A month ago, the city was receiving 300 – 500 per week.
