situation in yemen right now. let's take a look at yemen by the number. gregg has more on that. gregg: the country has a population of 23 1/2 million people, islam essentially the only religion that's practiced in the country, with 70 percent of the population sunni muslim, 30 percent, shia muslim. and here's the number that could help explain much of the unrest we are seeing there, 20 percent of 15-24-year-olds are unemployed. martha: we've seen that in so many of these regions across the middle east, the youth, the unemployed, out there in the streets, along with others who want change. now let's go to syria for a moment where the wave of protests is breaking up in at least three cities against the ruling government there. hundreds are in the streets around the capitol of damascus, damascus, until very recently had been absent from these kinds of scenes because that is the central heart of the government. we are getting reports that security forces are firing tear gas at the protersers
and they linked their arms together to separate pro- and anti-government supporters and wanted to separate the two camps to be sure the clashes that happened last week where one man died did not occur today and yemen, today, thousands took to the streets in support of the president saleh, following friday prayers there and the president maintains he is not stepping down yet an protesters continue to fall for him to leave the country, and, step down from power, and in syria today, we are getting word outside the outskirts of damascus, possibly a report that three people killed in clashes, very important, because we have not seen clashes in damascus take place to the point that they've scaled in like this and it will be interesting to see how the story develops, in damascus, gregg. gregg: reena ninan reporting live from amman, jordan. a little context on jordan. it has a population of 6.5 million people and when it comes to religion, most are sunni
