It’s a common misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day, but it is celebrated throughout Mexico on September 16th to commemorate the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence against Spanish colonial rule. Here in Puerto Vallarta, the party begins on the evening of September 15 with a fiesta on the Malecón.
The time of Mexico’s most energetic celebration is once again upon us as Saturday, September 16th marks Mexico’s 213th Independence Day. Millions will kick off the celebration at 11 pm on Friday with “El Grito,” the traditional cry of: ¡Viva México! But how many understand the actual history of this ritual?
Listen to El Grito and celebrate Mexican Independence. Immerse yourself in the terror-filled tale of the Angel of Light. Take part in National Dance Day. Attend the 2023 Power Fest!
