Poor rice crops in key producing nations such as China, combined with increased demand have caused the biggest...

A global rice shortage is coming, according to a new report by Fitch Solutions. It is largely attributed to decade-high prices and bad weather conditions in rice-producing countries like China and Pakistan.

The world is bracing for its worst rice shortage in 20 years as rice production is projected to fall this year due to ongoing conflict and natural disasters.

The acute shortage of rice comes as a result of poor weather in China and Pakistan as well as the Ukraine war. Experts say India should not be adversely impacted and that rice prices are under control

In 2023, the world will be facing the largest global rice deficit in twenty years, according to a media-cited report by Fitch Solutions Country Risk & Industry Research.

Changes in foreign currency markets, combined with recent food inflation and foreign debt challenges, risk undermining the ability of many lower-income countries to feed themselves.
