In the recent runoff election, Alexander Stubb, a center-right politician, was elected president of Finland, marking the countrys first presidential election since its accession to NATO. Alexander Stubb of the National Coalition Party faced off against Pekka Haavisto of the Green League, in the second round, where Stubb emerged victorious, securing 51.6% of the votes compared to Haavistos 48.4%.

Last week, An Garda Síochána issued a €2.1m tender for body cameras to be worn on garda ­uniforms. It’s designed to be a test batch – or ‘proof of concept’ – to see how they might work in practice. Gardaí expect the trial of body cameras, limited to a handful of garda stations in Dublin, Limerick and Waterford, to be operational by the summer. Based on the results of the test cameras, a wider rollout of body cameras on most gardaí is then expected next year.
