Senators made a couple of changes to Bill 11, which would make senators responsible for extending a public health emergency, and moved the measure one step closer to an official vote Wednesday.
Opposing senators said the bill was unnecessary and there’s already language in the law to cancel a public health emergency.
Senators who favored the legislation said it isn’t about canceling the public health emergency, rather, it’s about the Legislature being kept in the loop and working with the executive branch.
Bill 11 would change the law so the Legislature, not the governor, would be the authority to renew a public health emergency.
