Theater nominees getting it done with no stage

Shakespeare once wrote that all the world’s a stage. He also wrote it while the bubonic plague had killed people across England. Albany High schoolers proved that the words of the Bard were indeed immortal, when they turned their own little worlds into stages in a plague of their own.
It has been a tough year for students across the country. But these young artists have persevered in their dedication to their craft and have made it to the final round of the High School Musical Theatre Awards.
This event, annual until COVID forced its cancellation in 2020, is usually played writ large on Proctors mammoth stage, with dozens of students recreating their high school production numbers before a large audience. This year, instead of canceling it again, Proctors opted for a smaller version that would keep alive students involvement while jeopardizing the health of no one.

Fairfield, and its swarming defense that recovered from a tough start, had other ideas.
Siena was denied its first-ever MAAC championship, as Fairfield again topped the Saints in the league title game at its home Rafferty Stadium in Fairfield, Connecticut. Down three goals minutes into the game, Fairfield rallied back to produce a 12-8 win and secure its third consecutive league championship, and second in a row with a win against the Saints in the final.

LOUDONVILLE The Siena women’s lacrosse program had to wait two years for its chance to get back to the MAAC championship game.
That wasn’t easy but the Saints sure made clinching their long-coveted spot in Sunday’s final look that way.
“It’s [been] hard not to look forward to the championship game, but we know we have to take it one game at a time because if we don’t win the game that’s in front of us, we’re not going to get there,” Siena senior Kerry Gerety said after the Saints’ 20-11 win Thursday in the MAAC semifinals against Monmouth. “So we made it a point of emphasis to keep it one game at a time.”

Proctors announced the nominees for the 2021 High School Musical Theatre Awards at Proctors at a live event on Wednesday.
Due to schools being unable to perform live musicals, 14 schools participated in the event s fifth year, plus an additional 19 individual students (not associated with a participating school) submitted a virtual audition for adjudicators in Best Actor and Best Actress categories.
“This year more than ever, in a year of cancelled high school performances and empty auditoriums, said Philip Morris, CEO of Proctors Collaborative, we are taking a minute to recognize those students who would have excelled in their school’s productions.”
