May 27, 2021 | Two CALS professors are among eleven UW–Madison faculty recently honored with Kellett Mid-Career Awards. The award was created to provide support and encouragement to faculty members who are seven to 20 years past their first promotion to a tenured position, considered a critical stage of their careers. The honor, named for the late William R. Kellett, a former president of the WARF board of trustees and president of Kimberly-Clark Corporation, comes with $75,000 that may be spent over five years. CALS recipients include: Claudio G ratton, professor of entomology, studies landscape ecology and conservation of arthropods in agricultural landscapes, and examines how intensification of agriculture influences the abundance, diversity and benefits that insect predators and pollinators provide to people.

Mar 12, 2021 A team of international researchers led by Michigan State University has received a five-year, $1 million grant from USDA's Data Science for Food and Agricultural Systems program, a component of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. One of the main priorities of the DSFAS program is the formation of coordinated innovation networks that solve critical problems in food and agriculture production. The newly funded, MSU-led project is aimed at establishing a multidisciplinary network of researchers in animal science, computer science and engineering to improve computer vision systems in precision livestock farming.
