Record-breaking heat index in Legazpi City reached a dangerous high of 50 degrees Celsius last Friday, making it the hottest day this summer, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported.

The water levels in Angat and five other dams in the country continue to drop despite rains experienced in many parts of the country, according to latest data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

The areas with the highest heat indices observed on Friday were Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (45°C); San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (44°C); Aparri, Cagayan (43°C); Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte (43°C); Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur (43°C); Iba, Zambales (42°C); Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (42°C); and Legazpi City, Albay (42°C).

The heat index in Pasay City reached 43 degrees Celsius on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

Chinese cargo vessel runs aground in Samar

The Philippine Coast Guard reported that a Chinese-flagged bulk carrier ran aground last week off the shoreline of Barangay Sulangan in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

A Chinese vessel carrying 55,000 metric tons of nickel ore ran aground off the coast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar last week, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Thursday.

A salvage team from Singapore was expected to arrive yesterday to remove a Chinese vessel that ran aground in Guiuan, Eastern Samar last week.

“I am very interested about this because the choice seems to be random and no longer purposeful with regard to the modernization of the AFP, which at the end of the day is what we are all here for,” Marcos said.
