bp has been doing great since the big gulf disaster thank you very much. so much so they are now trying to get back in. they have a new permit to drill pending before u.s. regulators right now and have been busy buying stake in other gulf oil fields in the meantime. bp of course just one of three companies involved in that catastrophic spill last year. how are the other two companies doing? also pretty great. transocean who operated the rig that blew up and sank last year, they are already back in business in the gulf. of the first ten post bp drilling permits granted by the government 4 of the 10 will be drilled by transocean rigs. almost half of the new post bp disaster wells drilled by the same guys whose rig blew up and caused the bp disaster less than a year ago. the third company involved in all this was halliburton. they cemented the well. that did not hold. that blew up and killed 11 men and spewed for months into the gulf. how has halliburton done since then? pretty great. in
his reaction one year later, halting deepwater drilling doesn t feel like a logical conclusion to this. 50,000 holes have been drilled in the gulf of mexico and this was the first time things went this wrong. i mean, if you do anything 50,000 times you re bound to screw up once right? who s with me? more from the bp chairman. quote, it is a burdensome road to regain the trust of the american people. the u.s. is one of the countries that reacts the loudest when the chairman of bp seems remarkably unfazed by what his company wrought just a year ago. this may be the reason why. bp s profits $4.3 billion in the last quarter of 2009 up to $5.6 billion through 2010. the thing in the middle is just one of their holes in the gulf of mexico that had a little problem. no big deal. bp has been doing great since the big gulf disaster thank you very much. so much so they are now trying to get back in. they have a new permit to drill
i m not. thanks, mark. good to see you. and still ahead, controversy, disturbing questions about a best-selling story. and next, congressman ed markey, a year after the gulf disaster what have we learned. every week i ve scaled back. there is a few crews. here we are a year later and still no sense of urgency. all we asked from day one was to do the right thing. we created the electricity that powered the alarm clocks and brewed the coffee. we heated the bathwater and gave kelly a cleaner ride to school. cooked the cube steaks and steamed the veggies. entertained dad, and mom, and a neighbor or two. kept watch on the house when they slept. and tomorrow we could do even more. we re cleaner, domestic, abundant and ready now. we re america s natural gas. the smarter power today. learn more at anga.us. how are you getting to a happier place? running there? dancing there? how about eating soup to get there?
since the gulf disaster. there are others waiting out there already a couple of the drillers have left some of them are now in africa waiting for the obama administration, which is congenitally opposed to exploring for oil. that will hurt us in the future and it s absolutely unmistakable and predictable. bret: quickly. if he has been opposed to it, it will probably slowly change, because i think it s pretty clear that his polling numbers are affected by oil prices. they had a poll that showed him dropping ten points in the last month and they said it s because of gas prices. so, they are going to vo to evolve on this. if you look at the press conference today, he spent a lot of time trying to convince people that we are doing everything that we can here. he even mentioned alaska. so i think that they are going to see a lot of movement on this from them. bret: kirsten s home state, by the way. up next, the friday lightning round. stay with us. the motorola xoom tablet.
because if there was another attack in the country, you don t want the first standers to say look what they did to the guys in new york, they didn t stand behind them, and so i think it was important for the country. thank you for sharing your perspective. appreciate it. the gulf disaster was one of the big stories of 2010. it killed 11 workers and millions of gallons of oil spewed into the gulf. animals just coated. we will tell you what one girl is doing to help. and then hot rod, taking it out for a spin and then crashing in his neighbor s lawn. the thing is, his neighbor is an important guy. that story coming up. back to more pills. and when he s finally home. but hang on; just two aleve can keep arthritis pain away all day with fewer pills than tylenol. this is steven, who chose aleve and 2 pills for a day free of pain.
