Whirlwind history of 1976 Corpus Christi Sea Gulls minor league team

For a city so enamored of baseball, Corpus Christi has had terrible luck sustaining a minor league baseball team. And the 1976 Corpus Christi Sea Gulls were no exception. In early March 1976 came the first talks of a Single-A franchise for the area. Advertising businessman Terry Ferrell announced his intention to create a local minor league team. A few weeks later the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues president announced the creation of the six-team Gulf States League consisting of the Corpus Christi Sea Gulls, the Rio Grande Valley White Wings, the Baton Rouge Cougars, the Beeville Bees, the Victoria Cowboys and the Seguin Toros.
