Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment: Threats of violence should be called out Gonzales Weekly Citizen Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment asked the public to call out threats of violence during the Ascension Parish Council meeting held at the courthouse in Donaldsonville. Under no circumstance whatsoever are threats and threats of violence or violence itself acceptable under any circumstance, Cointment said during the President s Report.  This is Ascension Parish. We re better than that. Our people are better than that. I m asking the public, as we journey forward, if you see this type of activity, call it out. Put that fire out before it becomes something someone will regret later on.

Gwen LeBlanc, Ascension Parish treasurer and CFO, retires

Michael Tortorich Gwen LeBlanc, Ascension Parish’s treasurer and chief financial officer, is set to retire after 47 years of service. She was honored during the May 20 Ascension Parish Council meeting in Gonzales.  Council Chair Teri Casso gave an emotional testimony in presenting LeBlanc to the crowd at the courthouse.  “You have inspired a whole generation of women that they can compete and succeed in a man’s world,” Casso said. Parish President Clint Cointment presented a proclamation, naming LeBlanc as Ascension Parish Treasurer Emeritus. According to the proclamation, LeBlanc, a lifelong parish resident, began her career with the Ascension Parish Police Jury in 1973. First, she was employed with the parish’s CETA Administration, and later served as assistant to the parish secretary-treasurer.

Ascension Parish residents voice support for development moratorium

Several Ascension Parish residents spoke in favor of Parish President Clint Cointment’s proposed 12-month moratorium on development during the May 20 council meeting at the new courthouse in Gonzales.
