The application states that the alleged structure of Shivling has been surrounded by artificial walls which is a modern construction and "unconnected with the original building."
A Varanasi district court on Wednesday directed that the scientific survey report on the Gyanvapi mosque prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in July 2023 be made public.
This Act of 1991 prohibits conversion of any place of worship and provides for maintenance of the religious character of any place of worship as it existed on August 15, 1947.
Varanasi district court directed the ASI to provide the DM with all items discovered during the ongoing scientific survey of the Gyanvapi premises that hold historical significance in relation to the Hindu religion.
ASI is currently conducting a scientific examination of the Gyanvapi complex in Varanasi, following the directive issued by the Varanasi District Judge on July 21.
